Our Technical Rescue Team is prepared to rescue a worker in a collapsed trench, or respond to a collapsed building in another city. The team members' obligations include, not only staying up to date on the latest techniques, and training for the worst case scenarios, but to maintain the complex, and vast equipment, that is needed for these tasks. The Heavy Technical Rescue (HTR) Team is one of the busiest teams in Special Operations, responding to over 1100 incidents a year requiring their special skills. The technical rescue is typically a high risk and low occurrence event. Students will need to bring a technical rescue helmet (fire helmet will work), rope rescue gloves (structural firefighting gloves must be clean), appropriate. These water rescues can range from locating a lost swimmer, to affecting a rescue in less than optimal circumstances. The department also has jet skis and a Zodiac watercraft, to perform rescues on the water. The equipment includes a USAR type heavy rescue vehicle that contains all of the needed equipment and supplies to shore up a collapsed building, or rescue a stranded climber from the edge of a cliff. The goal of our Technical Rescue training is to provide specialized expertise for not only automobile or heavy machinery extrication, but also the unusual. The COYFD has all of the necessary specialized equipment to perform these tasks. These members are certified in a national standard for this type of rescue. The Auburn Fire Rescue Department supplies one heavy rescue and six certified technician and operational level members. All TRT members have advanced training in all of the disciplines involved. The Technical Rescue Team has 24 members. (Photo courtesy of KME.
